The RevOps Operational Definition

A practitioner-facing operational definition built on six dimensions

The Operational Definition is the practitioner-facing companion to the canonical definition. It is grounded in the language practitioners actually use, while remaining theoretically anchored because each of the six dimensions can be related to the determinants of an integrative device. It addresses the limitation that purely theoretical definitions are inherently less operational and harder to communicate to practitioners who need a working definition to design roles, structures, and capabilities on the ground.

Components

What RevOps is (Structure)
An organisational capability deployed as function, department, team, or task force at the operational layer.
What RevOps does (Drivers and Nature)
Drives alignment, integration, and collaboration across go-to-market functions, both strategically and operationally.
Where RevOps operates (Audience)
Sales, marketing, customer success, and adjacent GTM functions.
How RevOps operates (Resources)
Through data and insights, systems, processes, and enablement.
Why RevOps exists (Outcomes)
To deliver revenue, profitability, productivity, and customer experience outcomes.

Application

Use the Operational Definition for hiring, role design, capability planning, internal communication, and stakeholder education. It complements the canonical definition by giving practitioners the working vocabulary they need to act.
